TEMwindows.com January 2010 Newsletter

“The greatest compliment that was ever paid me was when one asked me what I thought, and attended to my answer.”

- Henry David Thoreau

We feel fortunate to have an engaged group of customers who provide feedback and suggestions on our technology and products. Based on input
we have received, we are announcing several new products to better meet your needs. We are also lowering the prices on our products to make it even more affordable to switch from carbon grids to pure silicon, silicon nitride, or silicon oxide grids.

We look forward to continuing our dialogue with you!

Regards,
The TEMwindows.com Team

New Year = New Products & Pricing

New Products

Late in 2009, TEMwindows.com introduced 100 micron thick frame versions for several grid formats. We’ve expanded upon this, and the following products are now available in 100 micron thick frames:

  • Pure silicon UltraSM® TEM Windows with 5 nm, 9 nm, or 15 nm thick membranes in both nine (9) square and two (2) slot formats.
  • Silicon Nitride TEM Windows with 20 nm thick membranes in nine (9) square and two (2) slot formats.
  • Silicon Oxide TEM Windows with 20 nm thick membranes in the two (2) slot format.

In addition, we have moved to an asymmetric format for our 100 micron products, to aid the researcher in identifying the same position when switching between light and electron microscopy.

See our website for details.

New Pricing

Prices on all TEMwindows.com films have been reduced by 10% to 30%. Our pure silicon UltraSM® TEM windows are now available for $21 to $29 per grid. And we are especially pleased to announce
that our Silicon Nitride grids can be purchased now for as low as $9 per grid. Silicon Oxide grid prices have also been lowered. It is our hope that these price reductions will make it even easier to experience the benefits of pure silicon, silicon nitride, and silicon oxide grids.

Our TEMwindows.com website has been updated with the new products and pricing. We’ve also reorganized it to make it easier to find the right grid for your particular application as well as answers to your technical questions.

See our website for details.

Human Neutrophil Activation on SEM Using UltraSM®

Pure silicon TEM windows are also excellent substrates for scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Due to the conductivity of the pure silicon film,
there is better charge dissipation than with oxide or nitride films eliminating the need for gold sputtering. Images required limited sample preparation.

Human neutrophils were placed on IL-8 coated pure silicon TEM window grids (15 nm thick) and allowed to activate. Cells were fixed with glutaraldehyde, then dried with increasing concentrations of ethanol.
