Human Neutrophil Activation – SEM

1-10Pure silicon TEM windows are also excellent substrates for scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Due to the conductivity of the pure silicon film, there is better charge dissipation than with oxide or nitride films eliminating the need for gold sputtering. Both of these images required no sample prep beyond drying.

Human neutrophils were placed on IL-8 coated pure silicon TEM window grids (15 nm thick) and allowed to activate. Cells were fixed with glutaraldehyde, then dried with increasing concentrations of ethanol.
